INTRODUCTION |

India recently enacted a new labor law titled ‘The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.’ The statute was enacted almost 16 years after the Supreme Court of India, in its landmark judgment in Vishaka and others v. State of Rajasthan, laid down guidelines making it mandatory for every employer to provide a mechanism to redress grievances pertaining to workplace sexual harassment and enforce the right to gender equality of working women. Codification of the requirements in relation to prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace is a much-awaited development and is a significant step towards ensuring women a safe and healthy work environment. |

The seminar seeks to highlight the salient features of this new law and also indicate the obligations cast upon the employer once the law is made effective. The seminar shall also provide an update on the trends in relation to employment litigation in India and our experience in dealing with some recent cases. |
